Why a blog?

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

A huge hello. My names Brodie and I am in my 33rd year in the land of the living. I live on a small farm in South Otago, New Zealand with my incredibly supportive husband and my beautiful step daughter. We farm sheep and cattle with pet goats, chickens, dogs and cats.

At the end of 2021 I became unemployed, which gave me a huge opportunity to re-evaluate my priorities, where I stood in this world and how going forward changes needed to be made to improve my own life but also the lives my family.

This is a new challenge I have put to myself, to create a website where I can write down and share with you all, the knowledge I am discovering along my gardening journey as it morphs more into homesteading.

It is an ever evolving combination of becoming more self reliant as an individual and family unit, reducing our dependency on outside sources ie. Supermarkets/Large Corporations/Government and trying to remove ourselves as much as possible from the high consumption/consumerism lifestyle, which in the past 40+ years we have been led and forced into.

I want to show you how the simple act of gardening can change the way you look at the world and benefit your mental and emotional health. It's time to break free from the direction our society is going and take back control.

Through sharing what I am learning along the way I hope to inspire others to start looking at ways to save money, reduce waste, shop local, bring back community systems where we are able to support each other and overall find a more calm, relaxed, closer to nature lifestyle that will bring more quality to your life.

I look forward to sharing my learnings along the way.

Much love and peace xx
